Internships
The Surgi-Care Center for Horses offers an internship position
to two graduate veterinarians each year. The internship program
is designed to provide preparation for residency training
or high quality private equine practice. Interns are responsible
for daily care of hospitalized patients and work under the
supervision of senior veterinarians in the diagnosis and
treatment of horses admitted to the hospital or seen as
outpatients. The detailed job description for the internship
is contained in the “Avenues” section of the
American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) website
at www.aaep.org.
Veterinary students who are interested in applying for the
internship should contact
Dr. Anne Schwartz @ aschwartz@surgi-carecenter.com.
Externship
The Surgi-Care Center for Horses also provides opportunities
for veterinary students to perform externships/preceptorships.
Veterinary students spend 2 to 4 week periods observing
clinical practice at our hospital. The externship experience
also serves as an excellent means for veterinary students
to evaluate Surgi-Care for a possible internship following
graduation from veterinary school. A detailed description
of the externship is available in the “Avenues”
section of the AAEP website.
