Survey Stake in Rio's Hoof

While trail riding at dusk, my precious Rio was impaled with the remnants of a survey stake. As far as we could tell he must have held it down with his front foot and as his hind was coming up the stake went into the top of his coronet band, straight down two inches inside of his hoof.I had heard good things about Surgi-Care and immediately took Rio there - It was a great decision.  I really wasn't sure what to expect from the Surgi-Care staff.  I have to say I was very impressed before we even got there.  They stayed in contact with us on the cell phone to make sure we didn't get lost - as we were due to arrive at midnight.  When we got there the staff were all busy getting everything ready, it was impressive how they all knew what to do and where to be -they really are an excellent team.  Dr. Kelly is amazing even though she was very sick from food poisoning - she never let on, she took her time trying to find out how much damage the stake had done to Rio's hoof and what the best course of action would be.  Unfortunately the stake wouldn't budge and Rio went into surgery.  Dr. Kuebelbeck was called at about 1:30am to do the surgery.  She arrived and took the time to explain everything that she would be doing and why.  Surgery went great and Rio spent the next few days in the hospital. He is recovering beautifully and after three weeks we went for our first ride...it was GREAT!  And.....the cost...well the cost came out to be the lowest estimate they gave me!

Thank you Surgi-Care team!
