Doctor Interns

Carolyn Oppenheimer, DVM
Intern
Dr. Oppenheimer grew up in Sarasota, FL and started riding and showing in Pony Club in elementary school.  Unfortunately, some of her horses were lame more often than not, but that sparked a love of veterinary medicine after a childhood dream to be a medical doctor.  After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the University of Florida, she attended veterinary school at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.  Due to her historically lame horses, lameness is a primary interest as well as nutrition, dentistry and geriatric medicine.  Dr Oppenheimer's 19 year old thoroughbred gelding has been with her throughout her education and while he enjoyed the Indiana winters, he is now readjusting to Florida.  In addition to veterinary medicine, Dr. Oppenheimer enjoys hiking reading, spending time with loved ones and of course, horseback riding.  You may contact Dr. Oppenheimer at coppenheimer@surgi-carecenter.com.
Megan Williams, DVM
Intern
Dr. Williams grew up on a large cattle ranch in south-eastern Alberta, Canada.  Despite being surrounded by cattle, there was never a doubt that horses were her passion and in 2010 she graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon.  In the year before joining Surgi-Care, she split her time between practicing mixed animal practice in rural Saskatchewan, and working a breeding season at the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas, one of North America’s largest equine breeding facilities.  Although she is interested in all areas of equine practice, theriogenology (reproduction) is her area of special interest.  Dr. Williams is very excited for her year in Florida, and all that Surgi-Care has to offer, including the lack of long, harsh, cold winters. You may contact Dr. Williams at mwilliams@surgi-carecenter.com.
